‘UKCCA announces its newest addition to its creative team, Chanice Thomas.’
Chanice Thomas, takes up the role of Learning and Participation Project Manager at the UK Centre for Carnival Arts (UKCCA), in November 2024. Chanice brings a unique blend of skills, experiences, and an infectious passion for creativity. Her background is diverse, shaped by a career dedicated to community care, creative exploration, and empowering young people. With each chapter of her journey, Chanice has gained invaluable skills that she is now excited to bring fresh energy and innovative ideas to the future of Carnival.
Chanice’s story is one of movement and growth. Having lived in various parts of the UK, exploiting the opportunity to experience various cultures, landscapes, and communities, that make up ‘Social and Creative Britain!’… Connecting with people from all walks of life, and cultivating empathy and inclusivity.
As a Project Manager in healthcare, her role was to oversee critical initiatives with a focus on delivering high-quality care and achieving meaningful outcomes for the healthcare industry. Using her strategic planning skills, she navigated complex systems, and honed her ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and local communities.
Simultaneously, Chanice found a calling in mentorship and supported living, particularly in roles where she could make a direct impact on young people’s lives. She has dedicated time to mentoring, providing young individuals with guidance, encouragement, and support, as they transit, through the many critical stages of their personal and professional journeys.
Chanice is also an avid and accomplished photographer, with a natural eye for creativity. For the past six years, she has dedicated her spare time to developing her photography skills, with a particular love for creative set-ups that tell a story. Her passion for capturing the world through a lens has given her a unique perspective on creativity—one that values detail, colour, and the beauty of capturing moments in time. This artistic side has been a source of personal joy, but it also aligns closely with her new role, as she’s eager to incorporate fresh, creative concepts into future arts education programmes.
The combination of Chanice’s artistic vision and project management acumen facilitates a dynamic approach to the Learning and Participation Project Manager role. She is passionate about creating experiences that engage, inspire, and bring people together with creativity. With Carnival on the horizon, Chanice is ready to contribute with enthusiasm to shape an event that reflects both the vibrant spirit of the community and the transformative power of the Carnival arts.
