Our World Our Future Carnival Headdress
The theme of Luton International Carnival 2022 is “Our World, Our Future”. The theme allows for a wide range of creative expression from celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee and the beauty of nature to climate change and your aspirations for our world in the future. Our artists have created templates for a really special “Our World, Our Future” themed carnival headdress which you can make at home or school with paper.
Materials you will need
You will need:
A4 paper (and preferably a printer)
Scissors
Glue
Paint and paint brushes
Make your hat base
The first step for all the designs is to create the headdress base. You can do this with two pieces of A4. The templates for the base are on pages 6 and 7 of the download booklet. You will end up with 3 pieces in total for your base.
To put your base together you first take part 1, and stick one side of part 2 to it. Then measure around your head to stick the other end of part 2 to the other side of part 1. This forms a crown shape, where the top of heart shape will sit above your eyebrows.
Make sure your head piece is the right way up! It frames the face like this.
Print out your decorative templates
If you haven't already, print out your templates (pages 8 onwards in the download booklet).
You can use all or just a few templates in the pack or how about having a go at designing your own? What does our world our future mean to you?
Cut, colour and stick on your designs
You can colour the patterns any way you wish. Once you are happy with your designs, you can arrange them around your headdress like in the examples below.
A big thank you to this year’s primary funder Luton Rising, without who’s support the carnival would not have been possible.
We would also like to thank our other funders and supporters including Arts Council England, Luton BID, Love Luton, The Mall Luton, and Luton Irish Forum.
Also a huge thank you to the hundreds of returning volunteers who took to the streets to support the parade, making it a really special day for thousands of families.
