Make an Eid celebration headdress
Here is an easy tutorial to follow where you can make your very own carnival inspired Eid celebration headdress. Watch the video below, pausing when you create each stage, or follow the written instructions below.
Print out your templates
First you need to print out your templates. Click the button below for the full template pack in a downloadable PDF. If you don't have a printer you can draw these on the paper yourself by copying the picture below. You will end up with three pieces of A4 with your templates on.
Cut out and paint/colour your pieces
You will need to cut out all the pieces from the template first. Note that on the 'Additional Base Parts' template the strip at the bottom is also a part of the headdress so don't throw it away!
Once you have cut them out you can paint them, or colour them in. Our artist painted all the base parts blue, and then dabbed gold and white paint across them to give them a jewelled effect - and also to match the Eid lantern design. She then painted all the decorative parts in brighter colours and gold to complement the base. You can copy this, or you can create your own colour scheme!
Fix your headdress base together
Next you need to fix all the blue parts together to form the base. Take the largest piece first, and fold over the two big flaps at the top and fix them together to form a hat shaped base. You then take the long strip and fix it to each side of your folded base so that it fits around your head - remember to measure it to get the best fit.
Finally you can take the smaller blue pieces, which are shaped like mosques, and fix them to the base using the tabs at the bottom. See the pictures below to help you.
Here is what your base should look like when you have fixed all the pieces together:
Decorate the headdress base
The last thing you need to do is add all your decorative pieces to your base to make your headdress really special. The idea is to build up a little bit of height on the base so we recommend putting the crescent moon at the top, with the lantern shapes on the next level and the stars and Eid Mubarak greeting on the front and sides.
Eid Mubarak everyone!
